Description

The single vineyard "Anima" Reserve Grenache is sourced from a unique vineyard in the Barossa 's foundation town of Lyndoch, in the cooler southern area of the region. 60 plus year old, dry grown Bush Vine Grenache, planted into soil of red loam over a large white calcite/ white clay shelf. The water holding capacity of this clay has allowed these vines to flourish for decades without irrigation. Hand managed, hand weeded and pruned, this is a pure Clos vineyard

Hand harvested at optimum ripeness, the fruit was gently destemmed, with all seems being then returned to the ferment. Allowed to ferment naturally with only cap plunging until dry after 38 days, the fermented must was then sealed and allowed to sit for another 39 days before basket pressing directly to fine french oak. Silky tannins abound, aromas of forest floors, red berries and struck flint lift to a palate of richness and complexity eluding the bright colour and dense hues. A wine for the cellar, a seminal wine in single site viticulture and a wine that will reward patience.

Wine Orbit - Sam Kim
96 / 100
Wonderfully complex and seductively expressed, the wine shows dark berry, tapenade, bouquet garni and vanillin oak characters on the nose, followed by a superbly weighted palate delivering terrific fruit power with refined texture and beautifully melded tannins. Multi-layered and impressively long with a satisfying finish. At it's best now to 2038. 96/100
